ABOUT

Mike’s Pastry is a legacy shop in Boston’s North End, but its long-standing reputation had begun to overshadow the work happening in its kitchen. Some customers assumed the pastries were bought in and resold. The goal was to bring the daily baking process into view and reconnect the finished product with the people who make it.
I built the art direction around three essentials: the baker, the tools, and the ingredients. The North End’s age gives it character, but the worn kitchen could distract from the craftsmanship. Low-key lighting allowed the surroundings to recede, directing attention toward hands at work, textures, and the details of preparation.
The resulting imagery preserves the shop’s authenticity while making its craft the focus. By showing the process behind the pastries customers recognize at the counter, the work tells a story of freshness and care through visible proof.
